Why Size Changes Dog Years

Small dogs live longer because their bodies work less hard. Large dogs grow fast and put more stress on joints and heart. That is why giant dogs become senior much sooner.

This chart uses real vet data. Size makes the number more true for your dog. Breed and health matter too, but size is the biggest factor.

Dog Life Stages

  • Puppyhood: Birth to about 6-12 months. Full of energy and learning.
  • Adolescence: Up to 1-2 years. Like teenage years. Lots of testing.
  • Young adulthood: 2-5 years. Peak strength and activity.
  • Middle-aged: 5-10 years. Calm and still healthy.
  • Senior years: 8-12+ years. Slower pace. Needs extra care.

This is just an estimate. Always talk to your vet for real health advice.
